This hyperhydration corresponds to intracellular water retention that increases plasma volume and maintains water balance during exercise. The direct consequence: muscles remain better hydrated, which limits the decrease in plasma volume observed when dehydration sets in. This is the mechanism, and it stops there: we will not attribute any effect on cramps or anti-inflammatory action to it.
By improving this osmosis and water balance, glycerol thus supports physical performance by delaying the onset of fatigue and supporting endurance.
