Qu'est-ce que la chondroïtine ?

Un glycosaminoglycane, c'est-à-dire une longue chaîne de sucres, structurellement voisin de la glucosamine et présent lui aussi dans les tissus conjonctifs. Dans les compléments, il s'agit de chondroïtine sulfate, extraite de cartilages animaux : bovin, porcin, de poisson ou de requin selon les fabricants. Aucune version végétale n'existe — point à vérifier si vous excluez certains produits animaux. Comme pour la glucosamine, aucune allégation de santé n'est autorisée en Europe, tous les dossiers déposés auprès de l'EFSA ayant reçu un avis défavorable.

Quels sont les bienfaits de la glucosamine ?

La réponse honnête est qu'aucun ne peut vous être annoncé. Plusieurs demandes d'allégation ont été déposées auprès de l'EFSA — maintien des articulations, maintien du cartilage normal, réduction de l'inflammation, réduction de la dégradation du cartilage — et toutes ont été refusées, faute de relation de cause à effet établie. Ce n'est pas une nuance de formulation : c'est un refus d'évaluation, répété. Un vendeur qui vous promet un effet sort du cadre légal, même s'il l'écrit avec des pincettes ou une image de genou. Ce que nous pouvons décrire, c'est la molécule, ses formes, son origine et ses précautions — tout le contenu de cette page.

Est-ce que la glucosamine est efficace ?

Sur le plan réglementaire européen, la réponse est tranchée : aucune efficacité n'a été reconnue, et aucune allégation n'est autorisée. Il existe une littérature scientifique abondante, ancienne et contradictoire, dont les évaluations successives de l'EFSA ont conclu qu'elle ne permettait pas d'établir un lien de cause à effet. Nous ne trancherons donc pas à la place des autorités sanitaires. Ce que nous pouvons dire, en revanche : si vous achetez ce produit pour une douleur articulaire qui dure, le pari est mauvais — c'est un diagnostic qu'il vous faut d'abord.

La glucosamine est-elle un anti-inflammatoire ?

Non, et personne n'a le droit de le présenter ainsi. Un anti-inflammatoire est un médicament, avec une autorisation de mise sur le marché, des indications et des effets indésirables documentés ; la glucosamine est un complément alimentaire. La demande d'allégation portant précisément sur la réduction de l'inflammation a d'ailleurs été déposée auprès de l'EFSA — et refusée. Si vous cherchez un anti-inflammatoire, la question relève de votre médecin ou de votre pharmacien, pas de ce rayon.

Quand et comment prendre de la glucosamine ?

Aucun horaire n'a été établi comme supérieur à un autre, et il serait malhonnête d'en inventer un pour une molécule dont aucun effet n'est reconnu. Deux conseils pratiques tiennent debout malgré tout. Prenez-la au cours d'un repas : les effets indésirables les plus fréquemment rapportés sont digestifs, et un estomac plein les limite. Et si la dose journalière est élevée, fractionnez-la plutôt que de tout prendre en une fois. Suivez la posologie de l'étiquette, ne cumulez pas plusieurs formules qui en contiennent, et vérifiez la quantité de glucosamine réelle — pas celle du sel.

Quels sont les effets secondaires de la glucosamine ?

Les signalements recueillis par l'ANSES font état de troubles digestifs, de douleurs abdominales, d'éruptions cutanées et de démangeaisons, et, plus rarement, d'atteintes hépatiques et de purpuras. Ces effets restent peu fréquents rapportés au nombre de consommateurs, mais ils existent et justifient d'interrompre la prise et de consulter en cas de réaction inhabituelle.

Quels sont les effets secondaires de la chondroïtine ?

Le même avis traite les deux ingrédients ensemble, les compléments les associant très souvent : les effets rapportés sont de même nature. Le point spécifique à la chondroïtine est son origine, un extrait de cartilage animal, à vérifier en cas de régime excluant certains produits d'origine animale.

Peut-on prendre de la glucosamine sous anticoagulant ?

L'ANSES le déconseille explicitement aux personnes traitées par antivitamines K. Une interaction pouvant modifier l'équilibre du traitement est ce qui est en jeu, et cet équilibre ne se règle pas seul. La réponse ne nous appartient pas : posez la question au médecin qui suit votre traitement, ou à votre pharmacien.

Quels aliments contiennent de la glucosamine ?

Pratiquement aucun, et c'est une information utile à connaître avant de chercher. La glucosamine se trouve dans la chitine des carapaces de crustacés et dans les cartilages animaux — deux matières que personne ne mange en quantité. Les bouillons d'os longuement mijotés en libèrent des traces, sans qu'aucune quantité puisse être chiffrée. Il n'existe aucune source alimentaire végétale, et aucun aliment courant n'en apporte de façon significative. C'est précisément pourquoi elle n'existe que sous forme de complément.

La glucosamine fait-elle maigrir ?

Non, et rien ne permet de le soutenir. C'est même le contraire d'une bonne idée : s'agissant d'un ose aminé, l'agence en déconseille l'usage aux personnes diabétiques et prédiabétiques, c'est-à-dire précisément une partie du public visé par ce type de recherche. Pour un objectif pondéral, ce sont l'alimentation et l'activité physique qui décident ; notre rayon perte de poids ne dit rien d'autre.

Quel est le meilleur complément alimentaire pour les articulations ou contre l'arthrose ?

Aucun, et c'est la réponse honnête. L'arthrose est un diagnostic médical, et aucun complément alimentaire ne dispose en Europe d'une allégation autorisée sur ce terrain — ni la glucosamine, ni la chondroïtine, ni le collagène, ni les formules vendues sous des noms évocateurs en pharmacie ou en ligne. Un complément alimentaire n'est pas un médicament et ne se substitue ni à un examen, ni à une prise en charge. Si vous cherchez ce type de produit parce qu'une articulation vous gêne depuis des mois, la démarche utile est la consultation. Les seules mentions légales de ce champ portent sur la vitamine C et la vitamine D, et elles ne concernent que des fonctions normales de l'organisme.

Sulfate ou chlorhydrate de glucosamine : lequel choisir ?

Si vous devez surveiller vos apports en sodium ou en potassium, le chlorhydrate évite les sels de stabilisation du sulfate. Si vous voulez la forme la plus documentée, c'est le sulfate. Dans les deux cas, comparez la quantité de glucosamine réellement apportée, et non celle du sel.

La glucosamine convient-elle aux allergiques aux crustacés ?

C'est un point à traiter avec sérieux : l'ANSES déconseille les produits à base de glucosamine aux personnes allergiques aux crustacés ou aux insectes. Il existe des glucosamines obtenues par fermentation végétale, mais l'origine doit être écrite noir sur blanc sur l'emballage. En l'absence de mention explicite, considérez que l'origine est bien la carapace de crustacé.

Faut-il l'associer à d'autres compléments ?

Aucune association n'a démontré de bénéfice conjoint, et empiler les ingrédients dilue surtout les grammages. Si vous construisez une routine cohérente, appuyez-vous sur ce qui dispose d'un cadre réglementaire clair — vitamine C, vitamine D, un apport correct en protéines — plutôt que sur l'accumulation. Le collagène, le curcuma et les oméga 3 relèvent chacun de leur propre cadre, que leurs pages traitent séparément.
