Joints and tendons are what most often limit progress after a few years of training. Not the muscle: the structures around it. This joints and recovery bundle brings together three supplements found in almost every routine of athletes who have been training for a long time.

What is in the bundle

Why these three?

Because they work in different places. Collagen supplies the specific amino acids — glycine, proline, hydroxyproline — that make up tendons, ligaments and cartilage, and which are scarce in a modern diet built mostly around muscle meat. Turmeric has been used for centuries and is now the subject of an extensive scientific literature on recovery. Omega 3 EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function from 250 mg a day, and that is the item where the average French diet falls shortest.

How do you strengthen your joints?

No supplement replaces the three things that really work: increasing the load slowly, never skipping the warm-up, and giving tendons time to adapt — they strengthen far more slowly than muscles, which explains most injuries among people who progress fast. Supplements come on top of that, to supply the raw material. Not instead of it.

How long before it shows?

This is a long-game bundle, not an immediate-effect one. Collagen is taken continuously over several months: connective tissue renews itself slowly. Allow three months before judging, and take it every day, including days without training. It is consistency that counts, not the dose.

• Collagen: one serving a day, in water or a cold drink. Many people take it in the morning out of habit, but the timing does not matter.
• Turmeric: with a meal containing a little fat, which helps absorption.
• Omega 3: with a meal as well, to avoid repeating on you.
